Artist Bio

Jan Lewis is a painter, photographer, and mixed-media artist whose work explores the emotional resonance of place, people, and the natural world. After beginning as a fine art major at Georgia State University, she built a 28-year career in occupational therapy and education before returning to art full time in 2013.

Working primarily in pastel for representational subjects and in inks and mixed media for abstract explorations, Lewis draws inspiration from Western landscapes, coastal environments, animals, flowers, and everyday human moments. Recurring elements of shape, color, and organic form unify a diverse body of work that ranges from intimate portraits of animals and people to atmospheric landscapes and experimental abstraction.

Her work has been shown in regional and national exhibitions in Colorado and Florida and has found homes across the United States and as far as India. For six years she operated Jan Lewis Gallery in the Village of the Arts in Bradenton, Florida. A Georgia native, she has lived in Colorado for more than three decades with her husband, Gary, and their golden retriever, Teddy.
